From one kind of stress to another...

I'm just one of those people who can't seem to relax. Even if I was on a most gorgeous beach on Panglao Island, I confess that my mind was really on a lot of other different things. How much money is this vacation costing me? I hope that's not a thundercloud in the distance....Is this mosquito bite on my pinkie toe going to give me dengue fever?

I took up yoga to help me with this (it doesn't, I just like to be able to do a split at age thirty, without the classical ballet training). I took up knitting, collecting perfumes, blogging, watercolor painting, Agatha Christie, whistling, piano. Right now, I am lazing around in bed, worrying about whether all of this lying down is going to wrinkle the sheets. Plus, I think I lost one of my turquoise pillowcases, and the periwinkle one is not going to satisfy me for long.

Is this write-up too long? Maybe I should just go...(cartoon from snoopy.com).

Tonight, I write the saddest lines...

...sort of. I'm leaving for Manila tomorrow, and this is my last night with the pups. Just when they started to trust me. I don't have new puppy pics, so the old ones will have to do. They're trying to sleep now, so I won't wake them up. I wonder what they will think on Saturday morning when they wake up and I am not there. Will they remember me? Will they even think of me? Will they scratch on my door at night, waiting to see if I come out? Ah, well, such are goodbyes...

Since Mae already tagged everyone that I know, I really don't have anyone to tag. This is just for the enjoyment of the people that Mae already tagged, hahaha!

Instructions: Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write on their own blog about their seven things, as well as these rules. At the end of your blog, you need to choose 7 people to get tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave them a comment telling them that they have been tagged and to read your blog!

1. I was born with a head of thick curly hair, with the same side part that I have now (off center to the left). Also apparently, my skull bones were already fully developed, ergo, my mom had to have a C-section to get me out.

2. I eat lasagne with rice. Always.

3. If faced with a choice between an overhead or subterranean train, I will always take the overhead train. I never take the D by choice.

4. I know very little French and hardly any Italian, but I can sing the entire Marseillaise and Nessun Dorma. My entire family can sing most of the libretto of the Phantom of the Opera.

5. I first read The Thorn Birds when I was in third grade, the same time I was reading Little House on the Prairie and Bulfinch's Mythology. It was only much later that I realized what all the weird stuff I had read meant.

6. When I shower, I shampoo my hair before I wash my body. Less chance of back acne.

7. My favorite holiday? Christmas, of course!

I got this from Noel, the source of all my quizzes.

2. Where were you born?
Cebu Doctors Hospital in Cebu City

3. What city did you grow up in?
Cebu City

4. Did you enjoy your childhood?
Enjoy? What's that?

5. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Believe it or not, a Carmelite nun. There was something very attractive about turning your back on the world.

6. What do you want to be now?
A staff economist for the IMF, with a vampire-slayer secret identity (and a vampire-with-a-soul boyfriend)

7. Were you a fun little kid?
If I say yes, a lot of people will know that I am lying.

8. What was your first best friend's name?

9. Is he/she still your friend?
Haven't see him since I was four years old.

10. Can you name all the schools you ever attended?
St. Benedict's, St. Theresa's, Ateneo, Fordham

11. Were you closer to your mom or dad as a kid?Mom, because she was always there.

Should have done it ages ago.

14. Are you scared of anything?
Hell

15. What was your favorite class in elementary school?
Art, I think.

Went home for lunch 'til I was in freshman high, then brought my lunch.

18. Were you a mean kid?
YES.

19. Favorite board game of all time?
Trivial Pursuit, cranium a close second.

20. Did you play house or pretend to be a super hero?
Contrary to what Noel said, not every kid pretended to be a superhero.

21. Seriously, are you still just a kid at heart?
Yes.

People who know me know that I am all about obsessions. In high school, I obsessed about professional tennis -- I had a little (ok, not so little) scrapbook with newspaper articles about Michael Chang, Steffi Graf, Jim Courier, Monica Seles (it's so obvious how old I am!). I sketched avidly in high school and grade school. Ask my old teachers and they will tell you how I would pretend to be paying attention in class while dreaming up the latest version of my wedding gown (right now it's strapless with an A-line silhouette).

I always view my obsessions as learning experiences, and this past year has brought new obsessions and new lessons. I have seen eight operas at Lincoln Center, knitted five and a half scarves, one and a half beret, and one sock that I unraveled and started over again, gone to yoga class twice a week almost every week for two years, and have bought twelve new fragrances (full bottles, not including the samples that I bought).

My sisters will tell you that I was the one who would leave the house forgetting to spray on something. My mom, the very proper lady that she is, always left the house with a tiny spritz, and at least one handkerchief discreetly scented. When I wake up in the morning, I look forward to going through my stash of samples to see which fragrance I will test during the day. Those in the know will tell you that when you are considering buying a scent, test it out by wearing it an entire day, the better to experience the unfolding of the scent. My worst purchases have been those solely based on how the scent smells on a tester strip.
